Revalidation during investigation

Currently whilst under investigation you can not under revalidation process. Immediately following your case conclusion, if you have no conditions or practice your registration will then be marked as “lapsed” whilst you provide the documents needed for revalidation. This means when your investigation has concluded you need to in effect apply for reinstatement of your registration. We are working with the NMC to try to make this process easier to navigate, however in the meantime the information below explains how to do this:

Registration/Register Status

After the conclusion of your case the ‘under investigation flag’ will be removed; the flag should then be changed to “lapsed”. If you have another open case the flag will be removed leaving your  PIN showing as being effective to work.

If your registration is marked as “lapsed” you will need to apply for readmission onto the Register

Readmission Process

You will need three references; although you can’t begin the process or submit anything yet, you can contact referees and get them ready to support you.

Your referees will need to provide references on a form through the readmission application, please note that they can’t provide the references ahead of your application

Referee 1

We’ll ask you for the name and Pin of a NMC registrant to provide a supporting declaration of your health and character. This referee should:

  • be from the same part of the register as you are applying to join (for example, if you’re applying to readmit as a nurse, your referee must also be a registered nurse),
  • have known you for at least one year in the last three years, and
  • have been in contact in the last six months.

Referee 2

We’ll ask you for the name and email address of your employer. (If not employed then someone from the approved list)

Referee 3

We’ll ask for the name and email address of someone on our list of approved signatories (nurses, midwives, lawyers, police, vet, teacher, Dr etc) that you have known for the last year.
